Have gone by since my last post. How have you all been?<br />
Our kitchen remodel project finally got off the ground two weeks ago. All I can say is, what a mess! I have never seen so much dust . . . And I live in the desert! Ha!<br />
Before they came to demolition my kitchen, I spent a lovely couple of days feverishly putting together a couple of quilt tops to send to my sister for quilting.<br />
Alas, they still are sitting in my sewing room, waiting to be put in the mail! I keep thinking I will finish this next one and add it to the box.<br />
Speaking of the next one. . . . Grand baby #14 was born yesterday morning! She is absolutely beautiful! Addison Rae Rayes joined us just before 10am yesterday morning weighing in just shy of 8# and measuring 19.5 inches long. The quilt unfinished is for her!<br />
<br />
A sneak peak at starting Addison's quilt:<br />
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Of course every good quilter needs sustenance to get her through the project! :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is Ethan's top. I call it "Thinking outside the Square"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Not a great photo but I embroidered all the cars and moving vehicles, then appliqued them onto the fabric. I just had to add the crayon borders!<br />
<br />
And here is the quilt I put together in a day!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzABBGxKhNt9Tq_isNZS-SXkVeesR1VcwUqhW0lAQog8AQoFQihbeCuYkMEtGgrDvHs1Pdv-EQuRLsynowMo5XbMCrrkc4yC2ugnZxliKelAXMXaM8ntLOxN4m661WAWH573kwDBt93SA/s1600/jelly+roll+quilt+for+CaDi+Corners.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzABBGxKhNt9Tq_isNZS-SXkVeesR1VcwUqhW0lAQog8AQoFQihbeCuYkMEtGgrDvHs1Pdv-EQuRLsynowMo5XbMCrrkc4yC2ugnZxliKelAXMXaM8ntLOxN4m661WAWH573kwDBt93SA/s1600/jelly+roll+quilt+for+CaDi+Corners.JPG" /></a></div>
It is a jelly roll quilt made from Riley Blake's Beaujolais line. This photo does not do it justice! The fabrics are absolutely gorgeous!<br />
<br />
<br />
Well, I am off to work in Idaho tomorrow. No quilting for a while. Hopefully when I come home Friday evening, my new kitchen counters will be in!<br />
Til next time!<br />

I cannot believe it has been a whole year since I wrote. An awful lot has happened in the last year.<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Megan and Calvin were married in June. (Daughter, child #4)</li>
<li>Twin granddaughters - Abby and Bethy were born August 23rd in Denver. (Nick and Kathryn's children - this makes 6 for them).</li>
<li>Nathan and Casie were married in September. (Son, child #6)</li>
<li>I changed positions with my company in September.</li>
<li>My father in law passed away at the age of 93 on November 9th.</li>
<li>Most of my children came home for the funeral of their Grandfather on November 20th. </li>
<li>We celebrated the birth of grandson Hudson on November 28th. (Grandchild #12)</li>
<li>Then Hudson passed away and went to be with our Lord on November 28th (he was with us for 8 1/2 hours). (Hannah and Luke's son).</li>
<li>Funeral for Hudson on Saturday, December 5th. (Columbus, Ohio)</li>
<li>Burial of my Father in law on December 12th (Globe, Arizona)</li>
<li>The Holidays descended upon us but we didn't feel much like celebrating. THEN, on Christmas night, Nathan and Casie came to our house and told us they were expecting in July!</li>
<li>Grandson Ethan Rayes was born on January 27th in Phoenix. All I can say is I have the most AMAZING daughter in law as she understood the uncontrollable tears I shed as I held Ethan and rejoiced in his perfectness while grieving the loss of Hudson at the same time! Victoria, you are truly a gem and a blessing not only to me, but to my son and my grandchildren!</li>
<li>Hannah came out for a brief visit in February and looked absolutely amazing!</li>
<li>Hannah and Luke informed us in March they are expecting a baby girl in November!</li>
<li>My wonderful friend, Kim, and her husband made their way to Arizona in March and we were able to spend two afternoons together What an absolute blessing!!</li>
</ul>
Those are the highlights! That has a lot to do with why I have not written. It isn't due to not thinking about it, there were many times I wanted to write but chose not to because I was emotionally or physically drained.<br />
<br />
On the work front, I left the Compliance team for the company I work for (The Ensign Group), and accepted a position as the Director of Clinical Services for the Assisted Living part of our Company (Bridgestone Living). Basically, I lived in Wisconsin for 6 months! (many, many flights back and forth with a couple of random others to Nevada, Idaho, and Kansas). We had rented out the same hotel suite for 6 solid months! It was home away from home for three of us! We would leave our heavy winter clothing there on the weekends, sometimes not even bothering to bring a suitcase home! Then there were many weekends we spent in Wisconsin as there was much work to do and the trip back home would take too long :(!<br />
We gave up room 219 at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Milwaukee on February 19th! And then my team celebrated with a short cruise to Ensenada, Mexico!<br />
<br />
Ahhh, but on the sewing front . . .<br />
Through all of the joy and sorrows, I was able to continue to work on quilts. I made one for Hudson, I made one for a co-worker who became a grandmother for the first time, and I have almost completed the top of a quilt for my grandson Ethan!<br />
<br />
My sister Diane and I met up in Salt Lake City just two weeks ago for the Spring Quilt Market and purchased some yummy fabrics for CaDi Corners! I am back to planning projects that will most likely not get done :) but this is my therapy and I absolutely love it!<br />
<br />
I had a particularly grueling week up in Idaho for work a week ago and while I was gone, my daughters and daughter in law moved ALL of my sewing "stuff" into a spare bedroom. What a ton of work that was! You see, we are getting ready to have our kitchen remodeled and the started out cleaning out my cabinets - then moved on to the sewing area.<br />
<br />
I have been so excited to have my "Mom Cave" that I actually whipped up a small project Monday. I have been meaning to do this for a couple of years. Very simple really! A clothespin bag!<br />
Yup! You can't live in Arizona and NOT hang out laundry. Good grief, things dry in just a couple of minutes!<br />
<br />
Here is a photo:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM56ZSUCzVfLCVdw4GgtsAaoRDU0FR2H9eT58QXxGYLe_68LWYOP96DizSzrgJ2wI73Vljs_Ws-PFOoS6zEMCUb04sJ3ErDVL9nBilzktqzIUWcHndiepx_AO1iHV09rtJAUlx88FTPLk/s1600/IMG_1720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM56ZSUCzVfLCVdw4GgtsAaoRDU0FR2H9eT58QXxGYLe_68LWYOP96DizSzrgJ2wI73Vljs_Ws-PFOoS6zEMCUb04sJ3ErDVL9nBilzktqzIUWcHndiepx_AO1iHV09rtJAUlx88FTPLk/s1600/IMG_1720.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
I will attempt to write more frequently. No promises - but I would like to make this a regular habit for Sunday afternoons!<br />
<br />
See you later. . .Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-20470978716353802842015-05-31T21:44:00.001-07:002015-05-31T21:44:15.308-07:00Yay! A Finish!I like to blog when I have photos to show off!<br />
<br />
I took a short vacation (spur of the minute) a week ago to go home to Vermont to check on my Mom. Of course that also meant spending some wonderful time with my two sisters and my youngest brother! The thing with times like these are they are never long enough!<br />
<br />
I suffer with a psychological condition called "Delusional Thought Process"! I always think I can cram WAY more into my time at home than what is humanly possible - hahaha!<br />
<br />
When packing my suitcase, I threw in about 11 yards of fabric I had earmarked for a quilt for Mom. For Mother's Day this year, I searched on line for some pretty embroidery designs Mom could stitch up on her sweet little Elna. I found some, sent them to my sister to download onto Mom's machine. The rest of the instructions were for Diane (sister) to cut squares of fabric with stabilizer for Mom so she wouldn't have an excuse for NOT stitching out the designs. Then, the squares would come to me to sew into a quilt top. Diane would long-arm it, and other sister - Debbie - would bind it. This would truly be a joint effort.<br />
Because I was planning a trip (and not telling them - I wanted to surprise them), I thought I would bring along the fabric and put the top together while at home. [Enter Delusion Thought Process].<br />
Vermont is such a beautiful state, some time MUST be spent driving the countryside and drinking in all the beauty God created! [Cuts into sewing time].<br />
Then, there's the thinking involved in taking the sweet embroidered squares and creating a whole quilt around them. Once I decided what would look good (with Mom's input), I needed Diane to use her cool quilt program to plan it out and come up with directions.<br />
<br />
This is what we came up with:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCN-YjR4OKlimg6BpjyRGBw-e7v9pwmE_4KHCuzsSxnO_HU42BTtVxLHTwNABTlNpSjTNUrNB505CpsDQ5ZZ6_rFRlQal1qpVMBgUkq__DbqZjpfXmcDExqMB5D77rsd57qRsDl33rL8s/s1600/IMG_1262.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCN-YjR4OKlimg6BpjyRGBw-e7v9pwmE_4KHCuzsSxnO_HU42BTtVxLHTwNABTlNpSjTNUrNB505CpsDQ5ZZ6_rFRlQal1qpVMBgUkq__DbqZjpfXmcDExqMB5D77rsd57qRsDl33rL8s/s1600/IMG_1262.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pretty sweet, huh? Well, let me tell you what a PAIN this is!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The pretty blue and white floral fabric stretches like crazy and has made this little product our BEST friend:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXZfZErT5Y-6Tciuqq4KW1a-cpHorR13sViZRXmbPUbAW6ySV9NYEOx19-aMOt1N8wvBZwaB76vw7IwdX_SwLgfcWJDLtpgh4iSGfUr9r1KSJnArJeVV87fOBpkm7wglOXikj2gDy4Ots/s1600/IMG_1285.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXZfZErT5Y-6Tciuqq4KW1a-cpHorR13sViZRXmbPUbAW6ySV9NYEOx19-aMOt1N8wvBZwaB76vw7IwdX_SwLgfcWJDLtpgh4iSGfUr9r1KSJnArJeVV87fOBpkm7wglOXikj2gDy4Ots/s1600/IMG_1285.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
By the time Mom's quilt is done, we figure it will take about a gallon of this stuff!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It really is awesome! We have had to spray and iron each piece to get the stretch to decrease.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mom's quilt will need a total of 24 - 16" squares. Some of those squares will be cut and used in half and some in quarters because the squares are on point.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I left Vermont, we had a total of 11 blocks completed. I pulled the little sister card - </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. I am on the road for work almost every week</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. My daughter is getting married in a month</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. My son is getting married in 3 months</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. There is NO WAY I am bringing this fabric back home to work on</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Diane was very gracious and said she would finish it. Whew!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Being a middle child, I DID feel just a little bit guilty. Sooo, I want my sister to know that I have been energized by our sewing time together and have taken a little quilt top out that I finished last year and actually QUILTED and completed it for my little grand daughter Alana.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I bought this as a kit a couple of years ago and hand embroidered the squares. This is a Brenda Riddle pattern and the fabrics were by Lecien.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjYWzzzQ8iGp6AqlbSSW2Hq1nehZYZB2ST6UceX_mIa05cOus3g3eDM-VNjmJvF7SNRVP921Iqbn7sgcMHfiiriQdel_H6vCM2TT8kTbHhPze9lhLzVqhtIPtjiqdzj9T8Us8icPswUJg/s1600/IMG_1272.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjYWzzzQ8iGp6AqlbSSW2Hq1nehZYZB2ST6UceX_mIa05cOus3g3eDM-VNjmJvF7SNRVP921Iqbn7sgcMHfiiriQdel_H6vCM2TT8kTbHhPze9lhLzVqhtIPtjiqdzj9T8Us8icPswUJg/s1600/IMG_1272.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did a stitch in the ditch around the rows with small squares and put an "X" in each square.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then, I did a small meander around the dresses. This ended up making the dresses "pop out".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMT_EHg0cVYmRodiybmWdrD60gVG8iwuX1wWXkn-tiK6LecVu9zwJZcBvlq1iRX68t8weIRYG_-umZmysLtztXjsBFTvRKBfDjSOYwSJB8_zeqNRTAkA5ISKrnJdMLQ5Gl6KDS-yfSUAw/s1600/IMG_1273.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMT_EHg0cVYmRodiybmWdrD60gVG8iwuX1wWXkn-tiK6LecVu9zwJZcBvlq1iRX68t8weIRYG_-umZmysLtztXjsBFTvRKBfDjSOYwSJB8_zeqNRTAkA5ISKrnJdMLQ5Gl6KDS-yfSUAw/s1600/IMG_1273.JPG" /></a></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The nice thing about the meander stitch, is you can turn your quilt upside down and it won't matter! </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghTpXOnyECqTEVhltw4wdwGHBnC6HrV-MEaPzN6rAdWHIlFyKV8iKOUGpAuSiIiGkSVt2y5icnkZnzpzFeL0wJ3mTRpvKcv9VGHUmntRJ3kxflcvQKU968EsMEfKMZ3oWx8pNDYtgWxes/s1600/IMG_1284.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghTpXOnyECqTEVhltw4wdwGHBnC6HrV-MEaPzN6rAdWHIlFyKV8iKOUGpAuSiIiGkSVt2y5icnkZnzpzFeL0wJ3mTRpvKcv9VGHUmntRJ3kxflcvQKU968EsMEfKMZ3oWx8pNDYtgWxes/s1600/IMG_1284.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sooo, when I grow up, I want to be a long arm quilter and do wonderful quilting like Judy Madsen of Green Fairy Quilts, and Jenny Pedigo of Sew Kind of Wonderful.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I took a Craftsy class on free motion quilting and this is my stab at a flower using echo type of stitching.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to sew the binding on by machine. While it does not look bad, I think it is worth hand sewing the binding on! It just looks so much nicer!</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Well, the next project is a few quilted baby bibs and a self-binding receiving blanket for a baby shower I will be going to on Saturday.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Happy Sewing! Hope to be back soon. . .</div>

I managed to make 14 Christmas Stockings with #15 almost complete (I know, it's January 18th). #15 was something I wanted to try and then will send to my sister for our business, CaDi Corners.<br />
<br />
Once those were done, I put together a baby quilt for a young couple in our church who had their baby a bit prematurely earlier in the year. Here's a photo (made with Lily and Will the green and browns):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5aijivlE77Ni9qd1htbaA010Z-1c6vArbpUaET1IZjKUZmtIcPnclfA7yBJ_Nw-5MvwoemmrADtmx9HxQfFOEwjHsPkp2qztZacaevFKL4XB1w7hMz9Qe4KvqQew4TN-L2SYAlTf6b0A/s1600/IMG_1081.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5aijivlE77Ni9qd1htbaA010Z-1c6vArbpUaET1IZjKUZmtIcPnclfA7yBJ_Nw-5MvwoemmrADtmx9HxQfFOEwjHsPkp2qztZacaevFKL4XB1w7hMz9Qe4KvqQew4TN-L2SYAlTf6b0A/s1600/IMG_1081.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<div align="center">
Not the greatest photo. The quilting was all cross hatching and I used a pretty green thread. It looks awesome in person!</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I finished up a quilt my friend Kim, and I had started a couple of years ago. I saw a photo of hers completed and hanging on her wall in a Christmas picture she had sent - I think two years ago. I have had the top done, but needed to get it quilted, bound, and hung up! When we decided to do this quilt, we had seen the photo in a magazine and thought it would be neat to do double blocks and share. So, here are some photos of the finished project:<br />
<br />

I love to look at the quilting from the back. Every other block has a snowflake pattern my sister digitized for me. Those blocks were all done on my embroidery machine. The rest were done free motion.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the quilt hanging on my wall. Guess I need to work on spacing the clips better to have the "hang" look right :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had done some mending and brought my "baby" in for a tune up and cleaning. I dropped my machine off on a Saturday knowing I was traveling for work the whole next week. They said it would be done in a week. Well, on MONDAY, I received a call saying my machine was ready. Boy, was I shocked. So of course, as soon as I landed in Phoenix on Friday, I got my car and went to the sewing machine shop to get my girl!!!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My goal for this year is to FINISH PROJECTS and LEARN HOW TO FREE MOTION QUILT BETTER WITH MY DIAMOND DELUXE!!! As much as I would love to have a long arm quilting machine, it just isn't in the plan for quite a while. Why not figure out how to do all those marvelous things with the machine that I have???!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the family news side of things, I have another daughter (Megan) getting married this year! YAY! Looks like a June wedding (It will be hot here). Kimera graduated with her AA in English Literature. YIPPEE!!!! Louie had his gallbladder out before Christmas and was sanding down our picnic table the next day (ugh! He just would not listen to me to take it easy! Besides that, with all the surgeries I have had, he made me look like a total wuss with his overactive-ness after his!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope to be a little more organized and blog regularly this year ALL YEAR!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My current project is a quick little baby quilt. I saw one made up like this in a local quilt store a while ago and thought - No reason why I can't do one! I will post photos later in the week when I am done. I will also try to get some photos of the Christmas stockings posted too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Projects to do by the end of the month:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Finish making masks for the grandkids for Valentines day</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Put together a bag with some of the fabric CaDi Corners purchased</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. The little quilt mentioned above</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Projects for February:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Husband's friend at work is having a little girl and he asked me to make some of my cute little quilted infant bibs for them - I will most likely do 4.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Daughter has been asking me to make Gabe a backpack (he is 2)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
BIG PROJECT TO COMPLETE THIS YEAR - NICK AND KATHRYN'S QUILT!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now for those of you who read somewhat regularly, I am asking you to keep on me so that I can get it done. I have decided this will be the last quilt that I will pay someone to longarm. I want a custom quilting job done on this. I also would like to have it all completed before Megan's wedding as Nick and Kathryn will be coming out for that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I had to work up in Denver this week. On Monday, I was running the air conditioner in the car on my way to the airport in Phoenix. When I landed in Denver, it was 28 degrees out!<br />
Wednesday morning I left my hotel to make the 15 minute trek to the facility and arrived 2 HOURS LATER!!! Unbelievable!<br />

This past summer, I started pulling up Facebook on my phone and doing a check in for which ever shop I was in. <br />
My Husband, being the intelligent, good-looking, fun, fine, upstanding man that he is, suggested I blog about some of those shops I visit.<br />
Soooo, here is my first post about a FUN little shop I visited just last week.<br />
<br />
Well, first I should tell you I was NOT on a trip for work last week but travelled home to Vermont to check on my mother who had fallen and broken her arm pretty badly. But even though I went back to see her and spend some time with her, I still managed to go to a shop.<br />
<br />
Enter - Sunny Laurel Sisters - Colchester, Vermont<br />
<br />
I told my sister I had seen this shop listed on the <a href="http://www.rowbyrowexperience.com/">www.RowbyRowExperience.com</a> site.<br />
She hadn't heard of it, so we went to check it out (sorry Kim, they were out of their license plates). What a wonderful little quilt shop! We got there just a couple of minutes after 5:00pm (they opened from 5-9pm) and there were people waiting to go in! We loved looking at the lovely array of fabrics and some adorable Patchabilities wall hangings that were made up. We met Nicole and April (two of the sisters) and felt right at home. Of course we saw some items we just could not do without! Our most fun find was a very small hexie template! We each purchased one (along with other items), went home, cut out hexie's, and created little ornaments. Being quite pleased with our ingenuity, we felt the need to return the next day and do a little show and tell. We also brought her some to keep (both the small shown below and the larger ones). We like to share ideas!<br />
Nicole and her sisters are expanding their store into a larger space in the same shopping plaza BUT their new space overlooks Lake Champlain! We are so very excited for them!<br />
If any of you are ever in Vermont, be sure to look them up. You can check out their website at:<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzU6S-5tF_131DA1RdAJnUKAvsU34g4a_VDgkqzV0-Z-wq5on_da3KyEWUT982TiAp7mJn4B4xlnjky1sD1MXsSxrf72NvPwXEkLqNmfW3ILB9qozSJXAX3cH-4h1ROfdYboNE4RDoHs0/s1600/IMG_0885.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzU6S-5tF_131DA1RdAJnUKAvsU34g4a_VDgkqzV0-Z-wq5on_da3KyEWUT982TiAp7mJn4B4xlnjky1sD1MXsSxrf72NvPwXEkLqNmfW3ILB9qozSJXAX3cH-4h1ROfdYboNE4RDoHs0/s1600/IMG_0885.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
When I was packing for my trip to Vermont, I grabbed a couple of patterns I had purchased and wanted to show my sister. One pattern was for a tuffet. You know, "Little Miss Muffet sat on her Tuffet, eating her curds and whey . . ." The pattern was not written very well but I slogged through it anyway because I thought it would be so very cute! Diane and I worked together as a team and this is what we came up with:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ2lhK9JiZgzbrIauradnkYiP77pjVpw_AlU2CZBPHe8Vs3rKFUxk57UI4otck3lrvqoFywZr6zoZuFu5dPSNRPWjqE36-hyma2dm0KWAa3hF3pNsX_g9giKKuPoGN0mnCXUV9TMWG10Q/s1600/IMG_0890.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ2lhK9JiZgzbrIauradnkYiP77pjVpw_AlU2CZBPHe8Vs3rKFUxk57UI4otck3lrvqoFywZr6zoZuFu5dPSNRPWjqE36-hyma2dm0KWAa3hF3pNsX_g9giKKuPoGN0mnCXUV9TMWG10Q/s1600/IMG_0890.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjElEZxIO6HyxBs6Iv5EVfRaObr_f3IEfDWq9JsnExd6LIAgz1OOhZ8xsigM4KaGkdBMbwqMxFkZT-1pqNoXEoSkthZ5zQCErc6m2WoJO4F16PBlD1SXPGtXaf0p0gAfBO24hst6v3Q96Q/s1600/IMG_0891.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjElEZxIO6HyxBs6Iv5EVfRaObr_f3IEfDWq9JsnExd6LIAgz1OOhZ8xsigM4KaGkdBMbwqMxFkZT-1pqNoXEoSkthZ5zQCErc6m2WoJO4F16PBlD1SXPGtXaf0p0gAfBO24hst6v3Q96Q/s1600/IMG_0891.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIwhuX7ekkx7BlbHYiI_Ta9JX3jy1DmGpsXvKIZOgN3cg_mmmDQFS1DcMSZZTxH9M-I-3QjnwwgFYsD-FzlGCXV0CfiNIfAJ579GuSGpEBUJ-PAgXKR4LiMHwdltjYWZLzn9xXCjzIEQs/s1600/IMG_0892.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIwhuX7ekkx7BlbHYiI_Ta9JX3jy1DmGpsXvKIZOgN3cg_mmmDQFS1DcMSZZTxH9M-I-3QjnwwgFYsD-FzlGCXV0CfiNIfAJ579GuSGpEBUJ-PAgXKR4LiMHwdltjYWZLzn9xXCjzIEQs/s1600/IMG_0892.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
It is very cute BUT, needs to be puffed out on the sides! My sister said she would never make another one. I am thinking there is room for improvement so the challenge is on :)<br />
<br />
Well, it is getting late and I am still battling jet lag! Guess I will say goodbye for now!<br />

Several months have flown by since I last posted. I like to have photos to post and that has been one of the reasons why I haven't posted. I have been slow at completing projects and even slower at taking photos.<br />
My last post showed the beginnings of Layla's quilt. Here are photos of the finished product:<br />

I was pretty happy with the way it came out. Layla (and her parents) are moving to Ohio today :(<br />
I will be saving my Southwest Airlines Frequent Flyer miles so I can go visit them!!<br />
<br />
As soon as Layla's quilt was done, I needed to start on another for a sweet baby girl (now 9 months old)<br />
<br />
Here are some photos of what I have so far:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The mom likes baby blue and asked for a little bit of yellow. Here are the fabrics I chose:</div>
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div align="center">
Then I cut them out:</div>

I need to layer and quilt it. I have had many things keeping me busy - mainly work (my paying job :)) BUT, I managed to take a little side trip:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my wonderful friend Kim (I have a daughter named after her!) We toodled around central Illinois visiting Quilt stores in her little Smart Car. I had heard there is lots of sitting room in there and there is!!</div>

We had two days of meetings, a game of kick ball, two turns at canoeing, then home after 8 days of being gone. Whew!</div>

I am sad for her and her children and what they are experiencing right now. BUT I can also be happy that her husband Rick is now with the Lord in Heaven and THAT is truly a blessing. It doesn't lessen the pain those left behind feel, but knowing they will see him again one day is the silver lining around their cloud. I find as the years go by, we are seeing more of our friends and acquaintances leave this world. A normal part of life, but one that affects us immensely! Sooo, therapy for me is cranking up the Southern Gospel music and sitting at my sewing machine. <br />
<br />
In my last post, I mentioned I had a two week trip for work to Denver and was planning on getting some sewing done. Well, I DID! A wonderful lady named Darcy lent me her sewing machine and I was able to put a small dent in this quilt that I started almost 10 years ago. Here are some photos:<br />

I quilted it on my sewing machine on Monday (Memorial Day) and logged 1 hour and 20 minutes of actual sewing time but it took me between 3 and 4 hours (that's because I had to roll, move, roll, move, THINK, roll, move . . . you get the picture!) <br />
Not really my best work - I was frustrated with the little issues from the piecing. BUT, it sure is cute! We used the applique patterns from Designs by JuJu. This is actually an alphabet set with a picture attached but we chose not to use the letters. <br />
<br />
I REALLY need a better camera with some experience on taking good photos but here are some shots of the quilt:<br />

I am off to Denver for work for the next two weeks. I dread being gone from Hubby and home for that long BUT, I managed to secure a sewing machine to use while I am up there and am planning on spending my evenings in the hotel room SEWING!!! Yay!<br />
I mentioned a while ago on one of my postings that I was getting ready to get back to a quilt I started a Very Long Time Ago. . . <br />
I am bringing it with me and hope to make some progress. Finishing up that quilt will make me feel like I have truly accomplished something and then can move on to other projects I have had lined up for a while.<br />
I will post photos as I go along. Who knows, maybe I will be organized enough to post while I am away!<br />
Now, to ensure I organize my work days up there to not be too long and exhausting (When I travel for work, I usually work 12 to 16 hour days in hopes of being able to relax a little when I am home. Needless to say, that RARELY happens :))<br />
Until next time . . .Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-12965123243307368052014-05-24T20:29:00.000-07:002014-05-24T20:29:40.721-07:00Catching Up!When I last wrote, I was chastising myself for being lax with my writing! Sheesh! It has been over two months since then!!<br />
Not writing doesn't mean I haven't been reading, looking, oohing and ah-ing, and dreaming of more things to do. I haven't been terribly productive but certainly not for lack of WANTING to be productive.<br />
<br />
Since I last wrote, my husband and I had a nice little vacation. We toured southern Utah - Zion National Park, the Arches National Park, and drove on some off-the-main trek roads. We saw gorgeous scenery and we managed to get to Colorado Springs to visit our son and daughter in law. Our travels brought us south through part of New Mexico and then into Eastern Arizona and back home. It was an enjoyable time and so nice to spend with Louie! When we finally get time alone together, we shake our heads and wonder why we took so long to make it happen :)<br />
<br />
After our short vacation, it was work, work, work. Then, of course, I needed another break. My sister and I were originally planning on attending the Spring Quilt Market in Pittsburg but decided we needed to work, rather than spend more money. So off to Vermont I went!<br />
<br />
Diane (sister) wrote up a pattern and I put it together. Then we decided to make a "younger" version.<br />
Here's what we created:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6NnI7_pxQdDaM8rnA9_oWKMZuGFnuadmBMeQNi7H_paMhkKnsjGZSY4utv5puWwsxxtu5qMROIgLyJ7jp31dHMVhRmIvWhnyNp-uiaA4FPxaXlILxBOZs5W2JrHiS7Y9zFk6MoEw-cck/s1600/photo+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6NnI7_pxQdDaM8rnA9_oWKMZuGFnuadmBMeQNi7H_paMhkKnsjGZSY4utv5puWwsxxtu5qMROIgLyJ7jp31dHMVhRmIvWhnyNp-uiaA4FPxaXlILxBOZs5W2JrHiS7Y9zFk6MoEw-cck/s1600/photo+1.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div align="center">
This is the first bag. Diane had wanted it to be wider but we were limited by our use of the border fabric.</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM64zIah8nzzhnCpic7gUz1Q8eYgxNpjF3iFaH9UKLUzxXXbh1yb2fU6ElTplAaPt2nTd1Ju7R-gkANww69X_jxEcq9u6MkcH1KB8RUegWXL-QqfavoX5ASVNZHzKF7InQ4XiLozXm29s/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM64zIah8nzzhnCpic7gUz1Q8eYgxNpjF3iFaH9UKLUzxXXbh1yb2fU6ElTplAaPt2nTd1Ju7R-gkANww69X_jxEcq9u6MkcH1KB8RUegWXL-QqfavoX5ASVNZHzKF7InQ4XiLozXm29s/s1600/photo+2.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgy6v5JgEQ_IywjjRpWK7w6UdPe3cce8bWUpQ255T7HjoNJjRMrxgOMDjBjwxawBOc42IBzvTKsxmDZqvYLqqeWDiwzeigoOUb4ye5q5hFh9-wWoR0KmvQ0iaTuTLlnDWmlZFm-j1MyOE/s1600/photo+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgy6v5JgEQ_IywjjRpWK7w6UdPe3cce8bWUpQ255T7HjoNJjRMrxgOMDjBjwxawBOc42IBzvTKsxmDZqvYLqqeWDiwzeigoOUb4ye5q5hFh9-wWoR0KmvQ0iaTuTLlnDWmlZFm-j1MyOE/s1600/photo+3.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<div align="center">
This is our "younger" version. The fabric is Bloom Modern II by Jason Yenter for In The Beginning Fabrics. This is just screaming out to a young girl. We braided the handles and Diane came up with the idea of using ric-rack with a flower button to hold the bow. Pretty cute, huh?</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhqo6oivv2Y57t4mE0jQ0o7H9hVQArrnPTWRY4ESzBmoslwbqb4tbZVBUh04gRuUCZS3ZEoocbRW4t3eq6CxTzltDqgf-DUPsrJI5R3rvLOBx6LXcEyA7vvf1LCo2O4_S0VRsqoNFaEJI/s1600/photo+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhqo6oivv2Y57t4mE0jQ0o7H9hVQArrnPTWRY4ESzBmoslwbqb4tbZVBUh04gRuUCZS3ZEoocbRW4t3eq6CxTzltDqgf-DUPsrJI5R3rvLOBx6LXcEyA7vvf1LCo2O4_S0VRsqoNFaEJI/s1600/photo+4.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<div align="center">
The small pouch is an Atkinson Design. Very cute and easy to put together!</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We also put a small baby quilt top together before I left. I will post photos when I have it all quilted (my weekend project).</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Mom was with us the entire time and we had fun. I would sit down at the sewing machine and Mom would want me to show her something on her ipad. Then, I would sit back down to sew, and Mom would want me to help her with her Christmas presents. I was in Vermont for four and a half days and managed to get quite a bit done. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hope you all have a relaxing long Holiday weekend! Remember those who gave their lives so we might live free!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Until next time. . .</div>

Old Habits die hard!The habit of letting sooo much time go by between posts! Life has been quite hectic here. Grandbaby number 8; the second granddaughter, was born on February 3rd - just over two weeks late!!! I had been on the road the week before so the stress level was a bit high thinking daughter Hannah would be having her baby while I was gone!<br />
Before baby Layla was born, we lost two members of our church. The first had just celebrated her 90th birthday and was such a joy and inspiration to myself and others. You might have thought she was all of 75; she was that spry! She was healthy until she went home to be with the Lord! What a blessing that was. The second member of our church went "running through the gates of heaven" after being here with her family for 4 years and never being able to walk or talk. So sad to see her family go through the loss but what joy they have in knowing Macy is now perfect and in the presence of the Lord!<br />
Things with my job are gearing up for getting busy! BUT, in the middle of all that, my husband and I are planning a short get-away in April. Then I will be meeting up with my sister in Pittsburg, PA in May for the Spring Quilt Market. Not sure how much sewing I will be getting done but I remain hopeful :)<br />
Until next time!Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-36328379167812134022014-01-23T19:50:00.000-07:002014-01-23T19:50:36.373-07:00And . . . We have a WINNER!!!The week got away from me and I should have done this drawing yesterday. BUT, well, I did get it done. You will laugh at how UN tech savvy I am!<br />
I printed off all the comments, cut them up, put them in a bowl, had my daughter "stir them up" and then she picked a winner!<br />

Have you been "Blog Hopping"? I have and it always amazes me how talented others are and how I have this growing love for Kona solids! Be sure to visit everyone on this hop to get your fill of "eye candy"!<br />
<br />
My initial draw to this blog hop was because of the BIG COFFEE CUP!!! And the idea of Kona Coffee (OK, so I have an addiction to coffee - is there a 12 step program somewhere???) :)<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i></i></span></b><br />
Before going any further though, I want to extend my sincerest thanks to <span style="color: blue;">Madame Samm from Sew We Quilt,</span> for spear-heading this wonderful blog hop! And MANY MANY Thanks to <span style="color: lime;">Carol from Just Let Me Quilt,</span> for being our tireless cheerleader!<br />
Madame Samm works behind the scenes to procure sponsors. This time we have to thank:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000;">Amanda Murphy, author of Color Essentials</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #a64d79;">Robert Kaufman fabrics - The company that brings us Kona Cottons</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #b45f06;">Aurifil Thread (they help us keep it together)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #b45f06;"></span> </div>

<span style="color: #b45f06;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #b45f06;"><span style="color: black;">Now back to the business at hand . . . Creating a project out of Kona Solids.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #b45f06;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #b45f06;"><span style="color: black;">After I joined, my mind started to go a bit crazy. I had just received the latest copy of McCalls Quilting magazine (January/February 2014) and on the cover was a gorgeous Lone Star block. I thought, oooh! That would look great as a sunrise star, then how about a sunset star? BUT - it was Christmastime after all, and who would possibly have time? Surely not me. SO, on to another idea. I went to my local quilt shop to see what Kona solids they had (not a very big variety). So I thought - how about mug rugs with applique'd snowflakes? Nah, not colorful enough.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Why not do a project on my list and change it a little? GREAT!!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have a grand daughter who was born just 2 months ago and my daughter-in-law chose Butterflies as her theme. (After 6 grandsons, I now have a granddaughter!)</div>

I used a Charm Pack of Kona Pastels, Kona Unbleached White on the front and back, and Kona Light blue for the binding. It is raw edge applique and will look cute when it gets washed (I hope). Oh, then I made this for the back:</div>

Be sure to follow the bloggers in this hop each day! There is some spectacular talent out there!<br />
My day is next Monday, the 13th - be sure to check back!Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-58383477312237799862013-12-31T22:21:00.002-07:002013-12-31T22:21:34.929-07:00Ahhhh, My FriendIt is still 2013 here in Phoenix as I write this post. The New Year has come already to the East Coast. <strong>Happy New Year Family and Friends!!</strong><br />
<strong></strong><br />
Every year, my friend Kim and I swap Birthday gifts. I think opening her gift to me is the highlight of my Birthday each year!! (My birthday is December 27th)<br />
Well, this year she sent me 3 lovely charm packs (Fig Tree & Co.), some white yardage, and a pack of English paper piecing papers (The 6-Pointed Diamond). You know, all I need is another addiction!<br />
Being the thoughtful person she is, Kim told me it was for me to have hand work to keep me busy on the plane when I travel and for those lonely nights in my hotel room. (I have a job that requires quite a bit of travel.) Well, I had to take it out, touch it, feel it, research it . . .<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

So Dearest Kim, Thank you very much! I will be sure to post photos of the finished project (at this point I have no idea what it will be!)<br />
<br />
Don't forget to return during the Kona Blog Hop!<br />

Happy Sewing. . .Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-10022327832160052952013-12-29T13:59:00.000-07:002013-12-29T13:59:45.638-07:00The Best Christmas Ever . . .I am sure I am not alone when I say the last couple of weeks have been a bit crazy! Those projects for Christmas gifts that need to be done "just right", the extra things that come up - like wonderful out of town guests you want to cook for, shopping for the perfect gift for loved ones, making sure those who live out of town get their boxes on time . . .<br />
Here at the Rayes house, we had a little extra excitement. My youngest son, Joel, was coming home from Afghanistan!!!! We knew he would be stateside by Christmas and thought we would surprise him with a trip to El Paso (Ft. Bliss) to spend Christmas Day with him. Then, I received notice from the Family Readiness Group there would be a homecoming ceremony in Phoenix the day before Christmas!! That meant the soldiers would all be here! <br />
<br />
Joel - Child #8, son #5 - <br />

This photo is a couple of years old. Lots of pictures were taken at the homecoming but gosh darn - I can't seem to find any! Will post some later if my kids share with me :)<br />
<br />
Just having Joel back made for the perfect Christmas! He has had to put up with hugs and kisses at random times. I think he is OK with that though! I haven't heard him complain! Joel's wish for Christmas was to be able to see and spend time with his family. I think this was his best so far too!<br />

Here's the scoop:<br />
<br />
The Compliance Team I work with had a team meeting the first week of December. One of our fun activities was to have a "White Elephant" gift exchange. There were 23 of us and I drew number 22. How fun to get to see all the gifts opened and then have the opportunity to choose what I wanted!!!<br />
<br />
Being the coffee snob (Starbucks Fan) that I am, everyone thought for sure I was going to go for the gift that was all coffee related.<br />
<br />
Ahhh, not so! <br />
<br />
When one of my teammates opened a gift that was homemade, I quickly decided THAT was going to be my choice! Each gift could only be stolen three times so I was crossing my fingers behind my back, just hoping it would not be stolen to prevent ME from being the ultimate thief!<br />
<br />
Alas, my turn came and the gift was available. So, WHAT was the gift? Homemade Sugar Scrubs!<br />
My friend Beth and her daughter made these yummy sugar scrubs that are TOTALLY edible (but that is not what they are made for), and smell like heaven!! I guess you could say they were heaven scent.<br />
<br />
I ordered some and here is a sample of what I got:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKNH5bui2H43M6FTOiEaF2Qgr3HS0RyAWR8ZB6gpEey0E30U3qCDVF2nmrV1ruINaW0TFtB3zw-SWsOV5M9d0wyTgKruxxcKS_tP6wTDJa7RJq_AbyShC4EwHz6gtRGUqvkOX4k_j7-Yk/s1600/DSCN0102.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKNH5bui2H43M6FTOiEaF2Qgr3HS0RyAWR8ZB6gpEey0E30U3qCDVF2nmrV1ruINaW0TFtB3zw-SWsOV5M9d0wyTgKruxxcKS_tP6wTDJa7RJq_AbyShC4EwHz6gtRGUqvkOX4k_j7-Yk/s320/DSCN0102.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
<br />
The scents available (so far) are: Ginger Lemongrass, Lavender, Vanilla Brown Sugar, Spiced Coffee, Peppermint Sugar, and Mechanics (a sandalwood scent). <br />
She made me a special one - Spiced Coffee (YUM). I will let you know what I think *wink*<br />
These are available in plastic or glass containers. Beth was very clever to use the plastic! She was thinking ahead to hazards of oil, bathtubs, glass . . .<br />
<br />
You can order from her too! Here is her information: <br />
<br />

<br />
Let's help Beth and her daughter with their new endeavor AND benefit from their talents!!!Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-85703738789191152542013-11-26T23:10:00.000-07:002013-11-26T23:10:58.939-07:00Getting things Done!I have had a great week(end) going into this week! I went to Texas for work last week and was so jazzed to have completed my work almost completely by the time we left Dallas! Flying home, we came through some gorgeous water filled clouds and I asked the Lord to let the rain come down on Phoenix. Well, it was obviously in His plan and we had wonderful rain Thursday night, all day Friday and Saturday with sunshine and clouds with a little bit of sprinkles on Sunday. For those who live in states other than Arizona, it may be hard to understand how we CRAVE the rain! Believe it or not, sometimes the sun can be tiring!<br />
Well . . . all the rain, dark clouds, and cooler weather encouraged me to get to work! I quilted the gorgeous Christmas Tree skirt my sister Diane made in August. Here are some photos:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrp0pj2iNcrlRuH2xCdnYbuJ6B3Bsxs9P0A30U_FMEzDohA8XtaJFmALMQb1T1pAXBtiP7hDLPRujfdks-ZHaluWG3UZHf9tLPZ6kk7ym_T2hxrdWsWUcONOGRVOlKOOBVDsCrmcyjSew/s1600/DSCN0059.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrp0pj2iNcrlRuH2xCdnYbuJ6B3Bsxs9P0A30U_FMEzDohA8XtaJFmALMQb1T1pAXBtiP7hDLPRujfdks-ZHaluWG3UZHf9tLPZ6kk7ym_T2hxrdWsWUcONOGRVOlKOOBVDsCrmcyjSew/s320/DSCN0059.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Above is a photo of the whole thing hanging on the fence by the pool. Diane will need to cut into the skirt, cutting up one side and cutting out a circle in the center, then binding it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did a cross-hatch in the center area. I think it looks pretty cool!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The narrow green border was begging for some decorative stitching. I love my sewing machine! I used two different built in stitches with my super cool walking foot.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not knowing Diane's plans for the outside edge, I decided to use another decorative stitch on the white border. The border is about 1 1/2 inches. She might choose to cut it off.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I finished the Christmas tree skirt on Saturday. Well, that spurred me on to finish another project I have shown on my blog. It is downright embarrassing to admit that I did not finish it until - YESTERDAY!!! But, I am happy to say that today I packaged it up and mailed it off.</div>

Here is the finished baby quilt for my friend Riche's first grandchild! Myka was born in late May and Riche told me when I saw her in June that she likes PINK!!!</div>

Well, it didn't end there! My newly married son texted me and asked me to send him my Hunger Games Books (because the second movie opened last weekend). When I put them in the box to mail, there seemed to be more room. I decided to try out a Patrick Lose pattern I saw in the latest Celebrations magazine. This is what I made to send to my new daughter in law:</div>

Can't wait until Thanksgiving week when I will (hopefully) have more time to sew!!<br />
<br />
I made a quick trip to Denver for work and was able to meet up with my son Jared, and his new bride Aria, for dinner! They were married on October 12th and are now living in Colorado Springs during his first assignment to Ft. Carson. We had a nice dinner and it was lots of fun to spend time with them. I was showing them photos of daughter Hannah's baby shower when they both said "I miss home". Well, that always makes a Mother's heart swell! So happy they love the home they grew up in but how exciting they now get to start creating a home of their own!<br />
<br />
My middle name should be P-r-o-c-r-a-s-t-i-n-a-t-i-o-n!!! I promised my sister I would quilt the gorgeous Christmas Tree Skirt she made but I got a little side tracked - on these:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjQHA25W_nLoauNCcPgIj6xQ9dj1hhH8AikOTfa-cIx_SNCJABVj9vG6Vo-llGaOy0MQYEqry9bpzs9cxHMNKBr0KV3BBaCvUX97iv-HGiekAMa04nKENz9n-z3VM7NQp-7fSF7U_rWek/s1600/DSCN0056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjQHA25W_nLoauNCcPgIj6xQ9dj1hhH8AikOTfa-cIx_SNCJABVj9vG6Vo-llGaOy0MQYEqry9bpzs9cxHMNKBr0KV3BBaCvUX97iv-HGiekAMa04nKENz9n-z3VM7NQp-7fSF7U_rWek/s320/DSCN0056.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So I am compelled to ask what is wrong with me? I can't seem to stop with the stockings! It's hard to tell the size of these from the photos but they are small. On my trip to Denver, I stopped in a quilt shop in Littleton and bought a pattern by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree & Co. I wanted to make them out of NON-CHRISTMAS fabric to see how they would look. They are CUTE!!<br />
<br />
Her pattern is downloadable. Here's a photo:<br />

Hope you all have a great week.Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-72953734128045342452013-11-10T20:03:00.001-07:002013-11-10T20:03:47.669-07:00Yippee! I'm In!See the new icon on the right? I have been accepted to join this blog hop that will happen in January. I have a couple of neat ideas that I look forward to trying out! Be sure to plan on checking out all the talent that will be on display for those 10 days.<br />
Have a great week - I will write again next weekend.Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-69910378912112462972013-11-09T22:01:00.000-07:002013-11-09T22:01:20.886-07:00Sappy Sappy Sappy!!I must confess - I so dearly enjoy the Sappy Christmas Movies that are played on Hallmark and Lifetime at this time of year! It started last Saturday and I am SURE if I don't scale back, I will be tired of it all by the time Christmas gets here :) <br />
<br />
I am a talented lady and as I write this post, ( I know how to multi-task) I am watching "Snow Bride" on the Hallmark Channel. My kids (they are all adults now) show up occasionally to let me know how sad I am.<br />
<br />
I have been busy sewing too! This is what I did today:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWu7o8LjMFcXmYOrYmF8KCzYxAl8ECVUsS65ktDddJ0RdiUVf44a8RIqN461ZchdQ44PINHorH12p38Mj6_tNOUIZY-VMh4l2zCkNiuNvnY5cMOiEJkKL5Y8XyMFlMQluDRcWwCHbCIbo/s1600/DSCN0052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWu7o8LjMFcXmYOrYmF8KCzYxAl8ECVUsS65ktDddJ0RdiUVf44a8RIqN461ZchdQ44PINHorH12p38Mj6_tNOUIZY-VMh4l2zCkNiuNvnY5cMOiEJkKL5Y8XyMFlMQluDRcWwCHbCIbo/s400/DSCN0052.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Not a real great photo, I know. But, I was trying my hand at a little Victorian project.<br />
The Victorian projects I have viewed have a LOT of BLING!! I am not a very bling-y type of person so this was a little difficult.<br />
One of the purposes of this project was to use fabric from one of the lines my sister and I purchased in the summer. I also made this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2Mjl-Gzfi72jOWXaJCOMhepSH5GJd7ysEn_zdhUryR9YXFSK6i-Jmi3NjOvx5Pu_k7UAiJMy-unaoSwWIB-R-zryRfrbFRVJylpbAmVX1QXhJYvuKU7MKG2dPP5ZWytlWdnfnY1XdrDE/s1600/DSCN0050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2Mjl-Gzfi72jOWXaJCOMhepSH5GJd7ysEn_zdhUryR9YXFSK6i-Jmi3NjOvx5Pu_k7UAiJMy-unaoSwWIB-R-zryRfrbFRVJylpbAmVX1QXhJYvuKU7MKG2dPP5ZWytlWdnfnY1XdrDE/s320/DSCN0050.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkw1trBkSqhK5BI-BXInRI3yHDoPcVxO99rfrK45fOZu5LlI1BckLVsyaKNhz57dzvayvmNn_K65J2FxFxwwwAE_Wvr8ZXUOuxU94B77_8j4qIFa9jCQh1gTajmH4fp3d73o2BoDTf0Xs/s1600/DSCN0051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkw1trBkSqhK5BI-BXInRI3yHDoPcVxO99rfrK45fOZu5LlI1BckLVsyaKNhz57dzvayvmNn_K65J2FxFxwwwAE_Wvr8ZXUOuxU94B77_8j4qIFa9jCQh1gTajmH4fp3d73o2BoDTf0Xs/s320/DSCN0051.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
A pillow case. I watched the Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial on Youtube to check out how to sew it "hot dog" style. I decided to do French seams on the inside. It looks very nice!<br />
<br />
Well, back to "Snow Bride". It is easy to figure out they will fall in love and then have a difficult time trusting each other once he figures out she is not who she said she was. Oh but it is still fun!<br />
<br />
Off to Denver for a quick trip this week then more sewing when I am home. Hope everyone has a great week!<br />
<br />Cathy's Chatterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01588490481155019558noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2564317982649062000.post-70603025630413566222013-11-02T23:18:00.000-07:002013-11-02T23:18:22.912-07:00Quilt Market Part IIWow, it's hard to believe at this time last week sister and I were physically exhausted but mentally stoked!! We spent last Saturday working with a fabric rep and drooling over the beautiful fabrics that will be released next year. We purchased 2 lines - they will be coming out at different times. We also purchased some fabrics that will be shipped this month (how exciting!!!).<br />
<br />
But . . . let's start at the top of the day. Here is a picture from the Convention Center in Houston:<br />
<br />

<br />
Once the market opened, we just HAD to stop and check out the sit down models of the Gammil sewing machines. This is Diane making a mug rug (I had to explain to her what a mug rug is - we used to call them coasters! Diane is older than me and learning new lingo is more difficult for her. She has probably asked me 3 to 4 times what a mug rug is!) :) Love you Sis!<br />

Towards the end of the day, I managed to spot Holly Holderman of Lakehouse Fabrics. Not only is she a talented woman, she is very kind and gracious, too! This photo was for my friend Kim! She LOVES everything Lakehouse!<br />

This past week was crazy! Got home from Market on Sunday, left for Denver Tuesday morning (work related), got home Thursday evening. Then we had a baby shower for daughter Hannah. She is expecting her first baby - A GIRL!!!<br />
<br />
Hannah wants to decorate the baby's room with letters so we bought the alphabet in different sizes and fonts. We set up a painting and decorating station for the shower guests to show off their creative abilities. Here are some photos of what the finished product looks like:<br />

Neat idea, huh?<br />
Well, I am off to San Antonio tomorrow for a conference on the software the company I work for is using. Hopefully I will learn all kinds of things this week!<br />
Until next week!<br />

Sister Diane and I are both en route to our homes (different directions) now after having a great weekend together in Houston. Our creative juices - right along with our silly and zany ones - were running amuck! We took educational and inspirational classes, visited vendor booths, and met some wonderful people who had all kinds of nuggets of gold to share with us. <br />
BUT FIRST, We decided to prepare ourselves for what dear hubby might say when he learns how much $$$ we spent . . . <br />

We stayed at a very nice hotel not too terribly far from the Convention Center. It was the Doubletree by Hilton. About a mile away, we decided to forgo the shuttle and hoof it. By the end of Friday, this is what my pedometer app told me:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Now, I happen to believe this is an error. But we really walked about 15,000 steps! By the time we got back to the hotel on Friday night, all we could do was GROAN like a couple of old ladies!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By the way, this represents a couple of round trips from hotel to convention center and back. Diane had one more round trip than me because she forgot to take her medication and had to go back and get it!!!!!</div>

Opening session For School house was done by Andover Fabrics. They have the license to do a line based on one of my favorite shows, <u><strong> Downton Abbey</strong></u>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They flew in the show's costume designer and the show's set designer. They both had lovely British Accents and It was fascinating to hear all about what they do.</div>

The fabric line is beautiful and here are some photos of what they had made up:</div>

Well, believe it or not, I have been writing this post in my head for almost a month now! The hold up has been trying to figure out how to fix my photos with a watermark. Regardless, it has been WAY too long and I need to get this out!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In September, our local Quilt shop hop took place. Here in Maricopa County, there are 14 shops that participate. You purchase a "passport", visit each shop, watch their demo, get your passport stamped, then turn it in at your last shop and keep your fingers crossed for winning a prize.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I was working from home the week of the shop hop so I planned to take my time, visiting only a couple of shops each day. In the past I have visited all the shops in two days and I came away realizing how much I had missed by just blowing through it. Not so this year! My plan was to really look at what each shop was demonstrating, consider carefully if it was something I would truly use, and make any purchases WISELY!!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

During dinner one night, my husband asked what "damages" our family budget had incurred as a result of my shop hopping. I was very pleased to tell him that I had purchased nothing! I was a bit discouraged to see how many shops were demonstrating RULERS!! Now, come on! How many rulers does one person really need? (I asked my husband). With a cute little grin and a twinkle in his eye, he said "One Ruler to Rule them all". Well, being the huge Lord of the Rings fan that I am, I cracked up and my imagination started running wild.</div>

I called daughter Diane, told her my idea, and this is what we came up with - One Ruler to Rule them all:</div>

She absolutely caught my idea and drew it up! The ring has "One Ruler to Rule them All" in it as well as some elvish writing (hehehe).</div>
